Security, privacy & terms

Learn how Finance Overseer handles account updates, your saved data, and the terms for using the service.

01 / YOUR DATA

Privacy Policy

Working draft — contact details pending

Account information

To create an account, you will provide your name, email address, phone number, state of residence, full billing address, and password, then verify your email address as an additional authentication factor. The account service will retain your name, email, phone number, state of residence, billing address, account ID, and a one-way password hash while your account is active. Billing and tax records may be retained for as long as needed to meet legal and accounting obligations.

How account information is used

We use account information, including your billing address, to operate and secure your account, provide support, process payments, and determine applicable sales tax. We do not sell it. We do not send profile information to other services except when needed to fulfill a request you make, such as connecting an institution through Plaid or processing a payment.

Payment information

When payment processing is connected, card details will be entered directly through the payment provider. The provider will process and retain the full card number and security code; Finance Overseer will not receive or store either. We may retain provider-issued customer or payment-method IDs and billing status needed to manage your subscription.

Billing location

The billing server will use your state of residence, the state in your billing address, and the transaction location it verifies from the connection IP address. If either submitted state value or the server-verified IP location indicates Washington, it will calculate the applicable tax on taxable charges. Sales tax will be $0 only when both submitted state values and the verified IP location are outside Washington. If the IP location cannot be verified, checkout will pause for review. We do not rely on an IP address supplied by the browser.

Connected accounts and temporary processing

When you connect a supported financial account, you authenticate through Plaid. We use your Finance Overseer account ID and email to associate your request and deliver the information to your app. Our servers temporarily process Plaid files and any tokens, logs, or technical data needed to complete that transfer.

After the requested data reaches your app on your personal computer, we delete the transfer files and temporary processing data as soon as they are no longer needed, typically within a few minutes. We do not keep downloaded financial files on our servers long-term.

Your data and your personal computer

Your financial history is saved in encrypted files on your personal computer. Once delivered, that data belongs to you. We do not take it from you or use it for unrelated purposes.

Public data and property lookups

We may cache public information, such as stock-market values, to avoid unnecessary repeat requests. This public information is separate from your private financial account files.

For real-estate information, we plan to look up each property address no more than once per month. We send the address to a data provider, deliver the result to your app, and then delete the address and temporary result files from our servers. Your app may keep the result on your personal computer. The provider may handle the address under its own privacy terms.

Subscriptions, cancellation, and account deletion

You can cancel while signed in on our website; cancellation stops the update service. You keep information already saved on your personal computer. If you terminate your account, we delete its profile and access data from our active systems, except records we are legally required to retain. The deleted account cannot be restored; create a new account to use the service again.

Service providers

Plaid, financial institutions, and data providers are separate services with their own privacy practices. They may process information as needed to provide their services.

02 / USING THE SERVICE

Terms of Service

Working draft — legal owner and contact details pending

Agreement and account security

These terms are for the planned U.S. service. The legal business that will operate Finance Overseer has not yet been named; its legal name and contact details must be added before launch. By creating or using an account, you agree to the published terms. You must provide accurate account details, state of residence, and billing address, and update them if they change. You must complete email verification as an additional authentication factor, protect your password, and connect only accounts you own or are authorized to access.

Permitted use and software rights

The app is licensed to you; this license does not transfer ownership of the app or its materials. You may use it for your own personal finances, with eligible family members or close friends as defined below, and within your own business. You may not sell, sublicense, or distribute the app, installer, source code, files, documents, images, interface design, or other licensed materials outside those permitted settings.

Family and close friends

Family means a spouse or domestic partner, parent or guardian, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, or another relative related by blood, marriage, adoption, or step-family relationship.

A close friend is someone you have personally known for at least 12 months before sharing access and with whom you maintain an ongoing, two-way personal relationship independent of the app. Casual acquaintances, clients, customers, vendors, social-media followers, or people whose only connection is sharing app access do not qualify. A work colleague qualifies only if they also meet this personal-relationship test.

Application updates and downloads

When an application update is manually published by the server, the app will download and apply it automatically the next time you restart the application. The website download link will be kept up to date with the latest stable version.

Plans, item limits, and billing

The Personal plan supports up to 5 linked financial institutions. The Business plan supports up to 15. Anyone who needs more than 5 institutions, including personal users, must use the Business plan. Contact Customer Support about custom plans if you need more than 15 institutions. High-volume update use may also require a Business or custom plan. Finance Overseer relays data that connected providers make available; if a provider has not supplied an update, no newer data is available to deliver. Some Plaid-connected account data may refresh several times a day, while financial-market and real-estate values may update weekly or monthly. Timing varies by provider and is not guaranteed.

Personal subscriptions cost $15 per month or $162 per year. Business subscriptions cost $25 per month or $270 per year. The first purchase includes a one-time $20 application license fee. The first Personal monthly subscription is discounted by $10 and the first Personal yearly subscription by $62. The first Business monthly subscription is discounted by $15 and the first Business yearly subscription by $70. These are fixed-dollar discounts, not percentages. Subsequent renewals are charged at the regular selected plan rate, including the 10% annual-plan savings already reflected in yearly prices. Subscriptions renew for the selected period, with payment scheduled for the first business day of the next billing period. You can cancel while signed in on our website; cancellation stops the update service. If a payment fails, update your payment method in your account to resume service.

Sales tax

Sales tax may apply to both the taxable subscription charge and the one-time application license. Tax will be calculated at checkout and shown before payment confirmation. If your state of residence, billing-address state, or server-verified transaction IP indicates Washington, the server will apply the appropriate rate to taxable charges using a tax-rate source. If the residence state and billing-address state are not Washington and the verified IP location is also outside Washington, sales tax will be $0. If the IP location cannot be verified, checkout will pause for review. Rates will not be hardcoded as a flat percentage, and the browser cannot supply or override the IP location.

Your data and account closure

You own financial data delivered to your personal computer. Canceling a subscription or closing your Finance Overseer account does not delete files stored on your personal computer. You are responsible for managing or deleting those local files.

Third-party services and availability

Account updates and other data features depend on Plaid, financial institutions, and other providers. Their services, data, availability, and timing may change or be interrupted. We cannot guarantee uninterrupted access or that every provider will support every account.

Service availability

We aim to keep Finance Overseer available and working, but maintenance, technical issues, or provider outages may interrupt the service. We may update or discontinue features as the product develops.

Information, not financial advice

Finance Overseer helps organize and present information. It is not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Check imported information and consult a qualified professional when needed.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms as the service changes. Updated terms will be posted here. These terms are governed by Washington State and applicable United States law, subject to consumer rights that cannot legally be waived.
